A warning and a change of mind

Two weeks ago, I had my toughest interview so far, with NIS in Kazakhstan. And it went good. Really good indeed... but there were three facts on that interview that made me think some stuff over...
My previous teaching experience (which I truly loved most of the time, and truly hated some times hahaha) made me erase all my online contents (pictures, blogs, lesson plans for other teachers, etc) and now I think about it and I say to myself... BIG mistake! ...So basically I will try to rebuild as much of my digital archives as possible, with what I still have. Its the 21st century and without a digital portfolio, we are a spec of dust.
On the other hand, I felt a little like an "old-school teacher". Compared to other countries, and with other teacher experiences, we are still in the stone age. We, as international teachers, MUST be open to changes, to positive criticism, and to other teaching experiences. It creates better teachers, and therefore it raises better students.
Finally, we must incorporate new technologies into the classroom (IT, Internet of things, ICT, etc). Its apps time, blogs, Html 5... and were are we there? what is our position? I am so buffed with this concept that I will start learning about it ASAP!! I love the fact that I am young enough to learn stuff over, but I'm scared to death to realize it is NOT an easy process... nevertheless, I will do it. Oh yes I will

Una llamada de atención y una toma de conciencia

Hace dos semanas y media tuve mi entrevista con NIS en Kazakstán. Y me fue bien. Muy bien de hecho. Pero tres hechos de esta entrevista me hicieron replantear cositas...
Por mi anterior experiencia laboral (la cual amé y por momentos odie, hahaha), borré prácticamente todo mi contenido publicado por años en la red. y ahora lo pienso y digo.. que gran error. así que me dedicaré en lo posible a volver a subir lo mas que pueda de mis recuerdos como docente: los alumnos, los proyectos, las monografías, mis libros y artículos académicos... todo esto. Es el pleno siglo 21, y sin una huella digital, es como no tener nada
Por otro lado, me sentí un poco vieja guardia, comparado con otros países y otras experiencias docentes internacionales. Y eso debe llamarnos la atención si somos realmente profesionales: estar abiertos al cambio y a la auto-critica no solo resulta en mejores profesores, sino en mejores estudiantes.
Finalmente, hay que integrar nuevas tecnologías a la educación. es tiempo de apps, blogs, html 5... y nosotros? donde vamos ahí? me motiva que aun puedo aprender, pero me asusta que no tenga el tiempo para hacerlo. Y aun así, lo haré- oh si.
